Propane tank inspection

Full inspection of your propane tank (above-ground or buried) so your supplier can refill it. Report compliant with NBN D51-006.

From
€ 215
Average duration
60-90 min
Validity
5 years

The propane tank inspection is mandatory before any refill: no supplier (Antargaz, Primagaz, Repsol, TotalEnergies…) will deliver to your tank without a valid certificate from an approved body. Atlas Contrôle is authorised by the FPS Economy and accredited BELAC ISO 17020 No. 663-INSP for this inspection.

Because propane is heavier than air, the installation calls for specific technical arrangements: two-stage pressure regulation, low-level ventilation, safety distances, and cathodic protection for buried tanks. Our inspection covers the whole installation, from the tank through to the combustion appliances.

Language of the report: the official report is issued in French or Dutch, as Belgian law requires. An English summary is available on request, free of charge.

First commissioning

The first inspection after your installer has finished. It is what allows the very first fill of the tank to go ahead.

Periodic inspection

Five-yearly renewal that keeps your refill authorisation alive. We send the report straight to your propane supplier.

Inspection after modification

Mandatory after the tank is replaced, the connection changed, an appliance added, or any work carried out on the high-pressure side.

Above-ground or buried tank

We inspect both. For buried tanks we additionally verify the cathodic protection and the tightness of the tank.

Safety distances

We check the regulatory distances between the tank and buildings, public roads and openings (windows, air bricks, inspection chambers).

Complete documentation

Detailed report, isometric diagram of the installation and certificate of conformity, issued within 24-48h and accepted by every Belgian supplier.

Transparent pricing

Prices include VAT, no surprises. Personalised quote within 24h.

Frequently asked questions

My propane supplier refuses to refill — why?
Without a valid certificate from an approved body, no propane supplier is allowed to fill your tank. The inspection must be less than 5 years old (10 years under some older contracts). We can usually attend within 5 to 10 working days.
How long is the inspection valid?
Normally 5 years for the periodic inspection. Some older installations still run on a 10-year cycle. An inspection after modification is valid for 5 years from the day of the visit.
What is the difference between an above-ground and a buried tank?
Above-ground tanks need greater safety distances from buildings but are simpler to inspect. Buried tanks require cathodic protection against corrosion, which we verify at every visit.
What happens if my tank fails the inspection?
We issue a report listing exactly what has to be corrected. You then have 6 months to carry out the work and book a re-inspection. Refilling stays prohibited in the meantime.
Do you cover the whole of Belgium?
Yes: Brussels, Walloon and Flemish Brabant, all of Wallonia (Liège, Namur, Hainaut, Luxembourg) and Flanders (Antwerp, Ghent, Limburg). Travel is included in the quoted price.
Do I need to empty the tank first?
No. The inspection is carried out with the tank in service — we use dedicated equipment to test pressure and tightness without emptying anything.
